About Brian Cohn: ‘Why I am running’

The Brian and Patty Cohn family of Lakeville, Minnesota.
Three generations of Cohns.
Brian Cohn's uncle, Rep. Abner Mikva, raises hands with President Jimmy Carter in this 1977 rally. Later in life Mikva was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama.

Brian Cohn is running for the Minnesota House to make life more affordable, keep Minnesotans safe, and expand opportunity for every family and community.

Brian and his wife Patty have lived in Lakeville for more than a decade. They have four adult children, one grandchild, and a long-standing commitment to serving others and strengthening their community. That commitment to service and community is what led Brian to run for office and continues to guide his campaign today.

Brian’s service in Lakeville reflects a simple belief: strong communities are built by neighbors who show up for one another. With the Lakeville Lions, he has worked to reduce hunger for local kids, give children a safe and comfortable place to sleep, and support other community efforts, including blood drives. He is also helping raise funds for the expansion of 360 Communities’ Lewis House shelter so more families have a safe place to turn in times of crisis.

Professionally, Brian is a problem solver. He has spent decades leading projects, developing products, and helping organizations navigate complex challenges. His career has centered on listening carefully, understanding what people need, and bringing people together to develop practical solutions that work.

Brian is running because public service should be about solving problems: lowering costs, protecting our rights, strengthening schools, and expanding opportunity. He brings steady leadership, community values, and a practical approach to representing Lakeville at the Capitol.
